Can i go to jail in virginia for this?

my brother caught me going in his car looking for change, and i admittedly took 24 cents in pennies. how would the virginia legal system handle a situation like that? it was nighttime when i went into it, but my brother was downstairs and awake, and i didn't force open the car, it was unlocked. he wants to send me to jail for it, but i think that's a little extreme. being pissed off? certainly understandable. sending me to jail for it? seems a little ridiculous to me, especially since he's my brother and we live in the same house. also, he said he wants to get a restraining order against me for it as well, and since we live in the same house, that would require me to become homeless. is he able to do that? oh, and i'm 18. probably not a factor that works in my favor, i'm afraid.
