Can metallica redeem themselves with their upcoming album?

We all know that before the black album, metallica had just about cemented its spot as the greatest metal band ever. but then they sold out with the load and reload albums and more noteably the st. anger album. they have a new album coming out this year. do u think they can redeem themselves as titans of metal if lars ulrich goes back to playing a leather snare drum, kirk hammet turns off his wah pedal once in a while, and the band as a whole goes back to what made them famous (long metal ballads with multiple riffs and guitar solos).
